CAGAYAN VALLEY – CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing (OB) Disaster Response (DR) Team provided relief packs to families who were severely affected by Typhoon Ompong (international name Mangkhut) on September 17, 2018.

This is in partnership with the local government offices (LGUs), local churches, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The affected individuals received relief goods, rice, solar lamps, and mats.

Typhoon Ompong was reported to be the strongest storm to hit the country this year, slamming the regions in Northern Luzon. State weather bureau PAG-ASA said that the eye of Ompong made its landfall in Baggao, Cagayan placing the province in storm warning signal no. 4.

The strong winds and rains left the land devastated. Ompong destroyed establishments, uprooted trees, blew debris, flooded roads, and cut-off communication lines, leaving the residents in great despair with wrecked homes and lost livelihoods.

But even before the typhoon posed a serious damage in Cagayan, OB DR Teams and volunteers were #OneStepAhead braving the wrath of Ompong and ready to extend help for any possible disaster-relief efforts to the families who were heavily affected.

They also visited Tuguegarao City, the capital city of Cagayan, and its barangays to check on the families that were affected and at the same time coordinate with the Disaster Risk Reduction Management office, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the AFP to help provide the immediate needs of the typhoon survivors.

This was made possible because of your partnership with Operation Blessing Philippines. Because of your giving, the residents regained their hope and faith for a better future.

It’s not yet too late to reach out to families who are affected by these types of disasters.
