Alex Ala is a 24-year-old construction worker from Brgy. 103, Palanog, Tacloban, a residential area near Operation Blessing’s resettlement project ‘Community of Hope’ (COH), built for survivors of Typhoon Yolanda.

Last February 2022, Operation Blessing, together with volunteer medical staff from the PNP and the DLL-Sagad offroaders group, provided free medical, dental, and optical services to the residents of COH and nearby areas.

These medical brigades benefit underserved communities, catering to our poverty-stricken kababayans who cannot afford decent healthcare.

Alex felt very fortunate to be a beneficiary of the said medical mission. He has been suffering from tooth decay for almost 3 years, impacting 5 of his teeth. Because each tooth extraction costs roughly ₱500 ($10), excluding medicines, he had to resort to ignoring the pain instead of paying the dental service fees.

Through Operation Blessing’s medical mission, Alex was able to save ₱2,500 ($48), which he will use to “help with the family’s household expenses such as food and rice”.

“I am very thankful that I don’t have to spend a lot to have my teeth taken care of. Thank you, Operation Blessing!” Alex gratefully said. Aside from the dental works, the circumcision areas also accommodated the most patients during the brigade.
