At just twenty-six years old, April Ann Juanites has already faced more hardship than most people do in a lifetime. A young mother of two, she carries the weight of both motherhood and survival every single day.

In the quiet town of Barbaza, Antique, life has never been easy for April’s family. Her husband works in the sugarcane fields, earning his pay only once every five months. While waiting for that small income, April takes in laundry jobs from her neighbors, often accepting a few kilos of rice as payment just to put food on the table.

But recently, her family’s struggles reached a breaking point. Both of her children were hospitalized after being diagnosed with dengue. Their hospital bills piled up. With no savings and her husband still waiting for his next pay, April was left wondering how she would keep her family afloat.

“I didn’t know where to get money. I just prayed that God would help us,” she recalled, her eyes welling with tears.

And then came an answered prayer.

News spread that Operation Blessing was coming to Antique to distribute relief goods to flood-affected families. With renewed hope, April left her children in the hospital for a short while and rushed to the distribution site.

That day, she received a food bag filled with essentials such as rice, canned goods, and other items that could sustain her family through the difficult days ahead. For April, it was more than just a bag of groceries. It was a lifeline.

“We needed this. The Lord knows how much we needed this,” she said softly, her voice trembling.

“Thank you for coming here just when we needed help the most. Even though the floodwaters have already dried up, you still came.”

Through the partnership of Operation Blessing and Metrobank Foundation, families like April’s are reminded that no one is ever forgotten, not even those living in the far corners of the country.

What seemed like a moment of hopelessness turned into a story of faith and thanksgiving.

For April Ann, that day was proof that God’s help always comes right on time, often through the kindness and compassion of others.
