“We have been putting up with the very limited resources we have just to survive in the mountains,” said Pastor Jamin Lanas of Iglesia Evangelica in Sinariri, Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro.
The 49-year-old pastor and some of his local church members walked around four to five hours to get to the medical mission site of Operation Blessing in Panaytayan, Oriental Mindoro. They made sure to take advantage of the free medical services offered by the mission team and the relief goods being distributed among the families in the area.
A father to eight children, Pastor Jamin remains steadfast and hopeful in his faith that God will see them through all the financial challenges they face in their family and in their church.
“In our community, not all are given the chance to earn money. In my case, it is also very rare to have a daily income from fashioning useful items out of metals or forging them,” shared Pastor Jamin as he lines up to receive the food bag from Operation Blessing.
Aside from working part-time as a metalsmith, he also sells soft broom which is a very common product in their village. “In fact,” he said, “many of my members also sell soft brooms but when this pandemic hit, their earnings were severely affected, pushing them to more hardships and constraints.”
To further help our Mangyan brothers in Oriental Mindoro, Operation Blessing also donated a printer to Pastor Jamin, which he promised to turn over to Sinariri Elementary School for the teachers’ use in their module printing.
