When Typhoon Enteng struck, it brought devastating floods to many parts of Luzon, including Rizal. At an evacuation site in Antipolo City, Sherryl Diamante’s family found themselves in the midst of this catastrophe.
Just after giving birth, Sherryl found herself managing the needs of her two young children: a 7-year-old and a 1-month-old baby with a cleft palate. This became a significant challenge as the floodwaters from the typhoon reached alarming levels, forcing them to evacuate their house quickly and live in a crowded evacuation center for three days.
Sherryl’s husband, a 41-year-old jeepney driver, earned about ₱600 a day (around $10.50). Yet, this wasn’t enough to cope with the destruction caused by the typhoon. Their home was severely damaged, with their electric fan, TV, and water dispenser all ruined.
“I was terrified, especially with a baby,” Sherryl said. “If it had been just me, I might have managed, but with my children, the fear was overwhelming. We had to evacuate fast to keep them safe.”
In response to the growing needs of the residents in Antipolo City, Operation Blessing provided vital and timely support. “We were immensely grateful for the assistance we received,” Sherryl said.
“The sack of rice we received will last us for two weeks,” she added.
Operation Blessing also responded to Enteng-hit areas in Bulacan, Batangas, and Metro Manila. These efforts are made possible with our local church partners, volunteer off-roaders, MSWD offices, and Shining Light Foundation.
