When the floodwaters brought by Kristine swept through Milaor, Camarines Sur, they didn’t just destroy homes—they disrupted lives in ways many are still struggling to recover from.
For days, water engulfed the community, rising above head level and submerging rooftops. For 63-year-old Nanay Nena, “it was the worst flood” she had ever experienced.
Living near a canal connected to the river, her family was forced to flee as the water surged into their home. It took several days before they could finally return and start piecing their lives back together. But the challenges didn’t end there.
Nanay Nena developed a persistent cold during the floods. With her husband earning just ₱300 ($5) a day as a mason, getting medical care wasn’t an option. Weeks turned into months, and her condition didn’t improve. She worried about her health but had no choice but to endure—until Operation Blessing arrived.
Through a medical relief mission, Nanay Nena received the help she desperately needed. A volunteer doctor examined her, prescribed antibiotics, and provided vitamins. She was also prayed for by our local church partner and received words of encouragement.
The mission didn’t just help Nanay Nena—it reached dozens of others in the community. Medical check-ups, blood tests, ECGs, and free medicines addressed the lingering health issues caused by the floods.
For a town like Milaor, often overlooked because of its vulnerability as a catch basin for floodwaters, this act of care was a lifeline.
The flood may have receded, but its impact lingers, and so does the need. Together, we can ensure more families receive the help they deserve when they need it most. Donate at www.operationblessing.ph.
