Glaiza Donceras was determined to finish her studies despite the financial challenges her family faced. With her father unable to work and her mother earning just ₱2,000 (around $35) a month washing clothes, even basic needs were a struggle. The thought of finishing her education felt like a distant dream.

“We simply couldn’t afford it,” her mother, Elizabeth, shared. “With my husband unable to work, we barely have enough for daily expenses, let alone school fees.”

But Glaiza’s determination never wavered. “I want to finish my studies to be financially stable and help my family.”

During a disaster relief operation in Oras, Eastern Samar, the team met Glaiza and another scholar, Mariel, who were volunteering to pack food bags for beneficiaries. Their pastor, Ronalyn Sumampong, learned about Operation Blessing’s Back-to-School Project and endorsed them for scholarships. Thankfully, both of them were able to secure the assistance they needed.

“It’s not just about graduating, but the happiest part is seeing them involved and more engaged in church. Now they are helping others know God. We are glad to be part of this project,” said Pastor Sumampong.

Under this project, Glaiza received educational assistance, school supplies, uniforms, tablets for online classes, and allowance for her studies.

“Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything” – this verse kept Glaiza going, motivating her to push through every challenge.

After four years in college, she finally graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Today, Glaiza is employed in a construction corporation in Borongan City in Eartern Samar, helping her family overcome their financial struggles. She also recently passed the Civil Engineering Licensure Exam.

“To all the donors and supporters of OB, I hope you continue to help more students like me. Thank you for supporting my education,” Glaiza said, her heart full of gratitude for those who believed in her.
