While carrying out her duties as a street sweeper in Bagong Silang, Caloocan, 48-year-old Catherine Gilles was hit by a fast-approaching car, leaving her left leg bruised and injured.
This incident has made it difficult for her to walk, forcing her to take days off work and impacting her family’s income.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Catherine was unable to report the accident as there were no active CCTV cameras in the area to identify the driver. However, she harbors no bitterness as she explains what happened.
Choosing to prioritize her family’s immediate needs over her own medical care, Catherine opted not to seek treatment despite the accident occurring near a hospital. “I would rather allocate the little money we have for food expenses than spend it on hospitalization or medical expenses. I simply take pain relievers to endure the discomfort,” she said.
However, her situation changed when she learned about Operation Blessing’s Mobile Clinic through her husband’s friend. Catherine seized the opportunity and was overwhelmed by the support and care she received.
At the Mobile Clinic, her wounds were cleaned and dressed to prevent infection. She was provided with much-needed medicines, vitamins, and a devotional from Our Daily Bread. Additionally, her grandchildren benefited from the various medical services offered by Operation Blessing, including dental and circumcision services.
The opportunity also provided Catherine with more than just basic medical care. She describes the experience as life-changing, expressing gratitude for the prayers offered. “I felt touched by the encouraging words I heard, and they meant so much to me, giving me hope that the Lord is always near and that in every trial, He provides solutions.”
This Mobile Clinic would not have been possible without the generous support of Republic Twister Eagles Club, Aejhan Learning Center, RG Meditron, and Universal Robina Corporation. Their contributions helped bring hope and healing to Catherine and her family during their time of need.
