Joel Abellanosa, 26, had always been a diligent husband and father.
But in January 2025, an accident left him unable to walk. He fell from a 30-foot Wi-Fi tower while installing a unit in Brgy. Rizal, Bansalan, Davao del Sur. The incident resulted in severe injuries, forcing him to stop working.
For months, Joel often felt like a burden to his family. Simple daily activities became a challenge, requiring constant support from his wife and son.
When he received the news that he had passed the wheelchair beneficiary assessment conducted by the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development of Bansalan, hope returned to his heart.
The moment Joel sat in his new wheelchair, his face lit up with excitement and unspeakable joy.
“I can now move on my own and no longer rely on my four-year-old son. I should be the one taking care of him, not the other way around,” Joel said, his voice trembling with emotion.
With the wheelchair provided by Operation Blessing, Joel has regained mobility, and his family can now care for him without the physical strain of carrying him.
“With this wheelchair, I can work in a welding shop near our home, help my wife with housework, and look after our son. I will never forget your kindness,” he added gratefully.
As part of Operation Blessing’s humanitarian efforts to support individuals with mobility challenges, 90 hospital-grade wheelchairs were distributed in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
Today, OB, in collaboration with Bansalan’s LGU partners, will conduct home visitations to our wheelchair beneficiaries.
