In and around Catbalogan, Samar, our Disaster Response team witnessed widespread destruction of homes and properties due to Typhoon Jolina (Conson).

“We nearly died because of that storm,” shared Carlo Lomuardo, 36, of Brgy. Rama in Catbalogan City.

Like many people living off the coast, Carlo has greatly depended on the sea as his only source of income. He gets to support his wife, Manilyn, and their three children in their education through his work as a fisherman.

But after Typhoon Jolina hit the coastal community, Carlo and his family’s memories of the sea were never the same again. “We are used to experiencing storms, but we did not see damages as great as these coming,” Carlo said as he walks into their destroyed home.

“During the onslaught of the typhoon, great waves came and drifted us… If we were not able to grab a bamboo pole, we don’t know where we would be right now,” he shared.

Responding to the needs of families impacted by Typhoon Jolina, Operation Blessing traveled to Samar to provide thousands of kababayans immediate relief. Aside from that, our team partnered with a local church to open an opportunity for hard-hit families and individuals to cast all their burdens on Jesus, the true source of hope.

“This is a big help for us, especially the rice. We appreciate your kind gesture. Thank you, Operation Blessing.”
