Liza Mabini, 54, sells vegetables in Tacloban City Market with her husband, Romeo. They are both hard-working and very hands-on in their business.

The Mabini family is one of the 97 families residing in Operation Blessing’s Community of Hope (COH) in Palanog. COH is one of the biggest projects of Operation Blessing built in 2015 to help families who lost their houses and livelihoods to Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. Liza and her family had been living in COH since 2017.

Romeo works as a barangay safety officer. Because his income is barely enough to cover their daily expenses, he wanted to earn additional income by putting up a vegetable vending business.

To open the business, Liza borrowed money for the capital. She admits to having difficulties at times, but she kept hoping and praying for what God will do to help their family.

Through OB’s “Micro Enterprise Tulong Pangkabuhayan Para sa Pamilya Livelihood Program”, Liza and Romeo were given sacks of different vegetables which were sold out only two days after the turnover. They then used the money they earned as their revolving capital.

“I thank the Lord for using you to bless us. I am just so happy,” Liza said, all smiles.

With OB’s help, their business became bigger, being able to sell different vegetables in season.

But more than the bigger capital and increased income, the Mabini family now have peace of mind since they now buy the vegetables they sell on cash basis.

“Before, when we still get loans as our capital, there is much pressure because we need to make sure all the vegetables are sold even with cheaper price,” says Liza, “but now, we are worry-free thanks to Operation Blessing!”

OB’s “Micro Enterprise Tulong Pangkabuhayan Para sa Pamilya Livelihood Program” aims to provide livelihood assistance to each family in COH to help them not just totally recover from the impacts of Typhoon Yolanda but to help start their journey towards progress and the achievement of their dreams.
